OPENING THE SEALED PACKAGES CONTAINING THE DISKS AND/OR BY
USING THE SOFTWARE, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS
AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT,
PROMPTLY RETURN THE UNOPENED DISK PACKAGES TO THE PLACE YOU
OBTAINED THEM FOR A FULL REFUND.
1. Grant of License. This Agreement permits you to use one copy of the Software, which
is licensed as a single product. The Software is "in use" on a computer when it is loaded
into the temporary memory (i.e., RAM) or installed into the permanent memory (e.g.,
hard disk or other storage device) of that computer. You may use the Software on a
network provided you have purchased one copy for each user.
2. Copyright and Restrictions. The Software is owned by SoftKey or its suppliers and is
protected by United States and Canadian copyright laws and international treaty
provisions. SoftKey, its suppliers or licensors retains all rights not expressly granted.
You must treat the Software like any other copyrighted material, except that you may
either make one copy of the Software solely for backup or archival purposes or transfer
the Software to a single hard disk provided you keep the original solely for backup or
archival purposes. You may not rent or lease the Software, but you may transfer your
rights under this Agreement on a permanent basis provided you transfer the license
granted by this Agreement, the Software and all associated printed materials, retain no
copies and the recipient agrees to the terms of this Agreement. You may not reverse
engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software, except to the extent the foregoing
restriction is expressly prohibited by applicable law.

be liable for any indirect, special, incidental, economic or consequential damages arising
out of the use or inability to use the Software, even if such party has been advised of the
possibility of such damages. In no event will SoftKey, its suppliers or licensors' liability
exceed the amount paid by you for the Software. Because some jurisdictions do not allow

IMPORTANT INFORMATON for V1.0 users and Windows 3.X users

1) Removal of TIFF and GIF support
Support for TIFF and GIF file formats has been removed from this version.

2) Version 1.0 JOB Support

2a) Conversion of TPL's
This version will automatically convert all V1.0 .TPL files
that it finds in the v2.0 directory that contains LUW2.exe. These
TPL files will be automatically converted when Lables Unlimited is
executed. Users should copy their v1.0 TPL files to their version 2.0 \Program directory.

2b) Opening of version 1.0 Jobs
The user will need to export their V1.0 jobs in order to use them in
Labels Unlimited V2.0.

2c) Instructions
Under Labels Unlimited V1.0 follow the instructions in the
documentation for exporting a Job and saving the resulting files in a
particular directory or disk. Under Labels Unlimited V2.0 these
exported jobs will then be able to be opened.

3) Compuserve Files
In a directory on the CD called COMPSRV, you will find an executable,
SETUP.EXE, that will allow you to sign up for Compuserve.
Simply execute the file directly off the CD. See example where the CD
is the E: drive ex.	E:\compsrv\setup.exe. The instructions and
codes for signing up for Compuserve are including as an insert in the
front of the jewel case.

4) Win32s Printer problems with certain printers.
With the HP500 series. HP600 series and the HP 5L under Win32s, the
print may skew to the right. The solution is to "shave" the left
margin by modifying the label format that is being used. This is done by selecting Modify at the Pre-defined format dialog.

5) Known Problem with Hurricane by Helix Software Co.
Users of Hurricane for Windows 3.1 may experience difficulties in
launching Labels Unlimited v2. If you experience problems running
Labels Unlimited, you should disable WinGuard in the Hurricane Control
Center. Once this has been done, Labels Unlimited v2 should run.
Users of Hurricane should refer to their documentation or contact
Helix Software Co. for specific instructions on disabling WinGuard.

6) Win32s

6a) What the installer wants to do
The install will attempt to install or make sure that the user is using
the current latest build of Win32s, 1.30c (build 172).

6b) What installing Win32s means
The installer will determine if the user is already running Win32s
and if so, what version. If the user already has Win32s, build 172,
then the installer will not do anything with regards to Win32s. If the
build is older than version 1.25 (build 142), it will refuse to install Win32s over the older version and instead direct you to a batch file to remove the older version of Win32s. The user will be given the option of
installing over Win32s builds in the range of versions 1.25 and 1.30a (builds 142-166). If the user decides not to install over the Win32s build in the range of 142-166,the install will exit. without installing Labels Unlimited V2.0.

6c) Explanation of batch file
The file, DELWIN32.BAT, is located in the root directory of the CD.
The user should follow the directions for copying it and executing it
in order to remove the older version of Win32s from your system.

6d) Manual removal of Win32s
See Microsoft document Q120486 revision date 11-OCT-1995 for complete
instructions. See Summary below

To remove Win32s:
1) Remove the following line from the [386Enh] section in the SYSTEM.INI
file:

device=<WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM>\win32s\w32s.386

Where <WINDOWS> and <SYSTEM> are the Windows and System directories
respectively.

2) Modify the following line from the [BOOT] section in the SYSTEM.INI
file:

drivers=mmsystem.dll winmm16.dll

to the following (remove winmm16.dll)

drivers=mmsystem.dll

3) Delete the following files from the <WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM>
subdirectory or from the SYSTEM directory in network installations:

WINMM16.DLL
W32SYS.DLL
WIN32S16.DLL
WIN32S.DLL
WIN32S.INI
WINHLP32.EXE
WINDOWS.HLP
WINHLP32.HLP
WINHLP32.CNT

Note: It may not be possible to delete W32SYS.DLL while Windows is
running. This occurs if you ran some Win32 application. It is
recommended that you remove Win32s while in MS-DOS, not from an MS-DOS
box.

4) Delete all the files in the <WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM>\WIN32S
subdirectory or the <SYSTEM>\WIN32S subdirectory in network
installations. Then delete the subdirectory itself.

5) Restart Windows

6e) Instructions for installing only Win32s from the CD
In a directory on the LU V2 on the CD named Win32s, you will find an
executable named SETUP.EXE. If you desire to install only the Win32s
API, you should execute this file.

RESTORE ORIGINAL
Restore Original allows users to reinstall the original formats as they were shipped with the product.
When users select Restore Original they will be replacing any modified formats or user created formats
that are not stored in User Defined.

MINI SHEETS
The Avery Mini Sheet formats represent 1 half of the physical mini-sheet. Users wishing to use a full
sheet must multiply the number of pages to print by 2 in order print the correct number of labels.

The Avery Mini Sheet format margins are set for printing on HP Series 4 printers. Users may experience
different results depending which printers they use. For more assistance consult the Avery Mini-Sheet
Formatting and Printing Instructions enclosed in the mini sheet package.

SHADING
Seven different shading options are available for all objects, except text objects. You can set each shade as
either opaque or transparent. All white text objects are transparent. Therefore, if you place a text object
on top of another object that is shaded, the text object appears shaded. If you want the text object to
remain unshaded, place an opaque object directly under it to block the shading.

EXPORT
When exporting a job file all the associated files are exported. This includes the database or merge file,
the graphic files, and the style files.

GRAPHIC
WMF files (Windows Meta Files) are always scaled to fill the object in which they are placed. Therefore,
toggling on or off the option to "Size Image to Fit" will not affect the size of the graphic.
WMF files can not be rotated or screened.

INSTALLATION OPTIONS AND REINSTALLING
WIN95
It is recommended that users with marginal disk space available not have any other programs running
while Labels Unlimited is installing. The Windows 95 Dynamic Virtual Memory Manager will
dynamically size the swap file being used by the user, it is possible that users with marginal disk space
available for installation may receive an out of disk space message. If this occurs the user should
manually set the swap file size, at least for the duration of the Labels Unlimited installation or the user
must free up disk space.

STACKER
If you are running Stacker 4.1 under Windows 95, you may experience difficulty installing Labels Unlimited
due to a known bug in Stacker. If this is the case, you need to find the file VSTACKER.386, rename it to
VSTACKER.BAK, install Labels Unlimited, and change the file name back.

WIN32S
When Labels Unlimited version 2.0 is installed on a machine running Windows 3.1 a set of 32s DLL's
are installed onto the system. These DLL's are required for a 32 bit application (Labels Unlimited) to run
on a 16 bit Operating System (Windows 3.1). These DLL's are not removed when Labels Unlimited's
uninstall program is run. For assistance in removing these DLL's refer to your Microsoft documentation.

VIDEO DRIVERS AND GRAPHIC FORMAT SUPPORT
Users who are running on Windows 3.1 and are using a 16 color video driver may experience problems viewing
certain graphic images such as PCX. Under certain conditions images may appear solid black or
the colors may appear grainy. These problems may be corrected by switching to a video driver that supports
256 colors. These drivers may be found on your Microsoft Windows diskettes or from your video card manufacturer.
Consult your Window's documentation or video card documentation for instructions on installing new video drivers.

SHARE
During installation some Windows 3.1 users may be prompted that SHARE must be loaded to run install.
Users should exit Windows and type SHARE.EXE at the C:\ prompt and hit Enter. Restart windows and
run the Labels Unlimited setup program again. Once the installation is complete you will not need to run
SHARE.EXE again.

FONTS
Fonts are installed to the Windows directory for both Widows95 and Windows 3.1 users. For Windows 3.1 users the
fonts are installed to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. For Windows 95 users the fonts are installed to the
\WIN95\FONTS directory. Users will need to manually add the fonts by opening the Windows Control Panel and selecting
the Fonts Icon. Browse the appropriate directory for your version of Windows and select Add. The fonts will
be removed by Labels Unlimited's uninstall program for Win95 users. Windows 3.1 users, to remove these fonts
from your system please consult your Microsoft User's Guide. A list of these fonts can be found in your Labels Unlimited User's
guide.

PRINTING
Many printer manufacturers produce country-specific Windows 3.1 printer drivers.
Windows 3.1 users should make sure that they are using a printer driver that is appropriate for their
country.

Labels Unlimited does not support the Windows Generic/Text Only printer driver.

Labels Unlimited uses the Default printer in Windows unless you select a different printer from the Print
Setup dialog box each time you use the program.

If your printer is not listed in the windows Control Panel printer list, or if you are having problems with
the printouts, please consult the printer manufacturer's manual for the best emulation for the printers.

Certain colors on the ribbon pallette do not print well on all black and white printers. We suggest that
you only apply color attributes to label jobs that are printed out on color printers.

US LASER PRINTER AND INK JET PRINTER USERS:
Some Laser and ink jet printers may feed label stock differently than they do regular paper due to the
thickness of the labels and the backing. If your information is being printed slightly too high or too low
on the label stock, you may need to alter the label format to decrease or increase the TOP MARGIN
setting. You can then save your modified label.

The majority of the templates for laser labels are set up for standard 8 1/2" by 11" paper. If you choose a
template that is not 8 1/2" by 11", you need to change the paper size setting for your printer using the
printer setup option in the program.

All of the envelope templates in the program are set up for Laser printers that feed envelopes through the
center of the paper tray. If your laser printer feeds envelopes at the right or left sides of the paper tray,
you will need to DECREASE the top margin setting on the template: the suggested setting is 0.5" for
these types of printers.

All lasers printers and many ink jet printers feed envelopes into the printer in Landscape orientation.
Change the orientation setting for your printer using the Print Setup options.

NON-US LASER PRINTER AND INK JET PRINTER USERS:
Some Laser and ink jet printers may feed label stock differently than they do regular paper due to the
thickness of the labels and the backing. If your information is being printed slightly too high or too low
on the label stock, you may need to alter the label format to decrease or increase the TOP MARGIN
setting. You can then save your modified label.

The majority of the templates for laser labels are set up for standard 304.8 mm length paper. If you choose a
template that is not 304.8 mm long, you need to change the paper size setting for your printer using the
printer setup option in the program.

All of the envelope templates in the program are set up for Laser printers that feed envelopes at the
left or the right sides of the paper tray. If your laser printer feeds envelopes through the center of the
paper tray, you will need to INCREASE the top margin setting on the template.

All lasers printers and many ink jet printers feed envelopes into the printer in Landscape orientation.
Change the orientation setting for your printer using the Print Setup options.

US DOT MATRIX PRINTER USERS:
It is very important that the paper LENGTH setting for you printer exactly matches the template that you
select. Many of the templates in the program for dot matrix printers are set to be 11" long so you do not
have to change the standard setting of the letter sized paper. However, if you choose a template that is
shorter than 11" or wider than 8 1/2", you need to change the paper size setting for you printer in the
Print Setup dialog box . The page size must correspond to the template you use. For example, if you
choose a template that is set for 4 rows and 4 columns of labels, 1 1/2" high by 2 1/2" wide, you will need
to set NEW FORMAT paper size that is 8" high and 10" wide.

NON-US DOT MATRIX PRINTER USERS:
It is very important that the paper LENGTH setting for you printer exactly matches the template that you
select. All of the templates in the program for dot matrix printers are defined so that the page length is
equal to the length of one label plus the length of the gap (or gutter) between labels. This means that if you want
to use a dot matrix label format, you need to change the paper size setting for your printer in the Print Setup
dialog box. For example, if you choose a template that contains labels which are 5 centimeters in length with a 1.5
centimeter gap between labels, you must change the page size in the Print Setup dialog box to be 6.5 centimeters.

If you want to define your own dot matrix label format, you must first change your printer's custom page size to
equal the length of one label plus the length of the gutter between labels before starting the Labels Unlimited
application. Next, launch Labels Unlimited and select New Format to begin creating your custom dot matrix label
template. In the label template, you must set the top margin to zero and the bottom margin to the gutter size.
You may then proceed to fill in the other label format specifications as you would for a laser label format. More
information on defining label formats can be found in the user manual.

Due to varying widths of continuous feed label stock, it may be necessary to adjust one or both of the
tractors to properly feed the labels to the printer.

If you experience difficulty with form feeding after setting the printer's custom page size to that of the
template that you are using, it may be necessary to modify your printer's page size upward by a few millimeters.

When printing envelopes, if your printer feeds envelopes into the printer in Portrait orientation, you may
need to make the top margin setting smaller on the template. The suggested setting is 0.5". If your printer
feeds envelopes into the printer in Landscape orientation, you need to change the orientation in the Printer
Setup dialog box.

DATABASE AND MERGE FILES
We recommend that you keep your database files on the hard drive. Since the database is constantly
accessed, operations proceed faster when this file is on the hard drive.

Also, we recommend that you periodically backup you database files, especially before altering the
structure of the file(e.g. adding or removing fields).

After adding or removing multiple records in a sorted database file, we recommend that you unsort and
then resort the file to ensure that all the records are ordered properly. No sort is an option in the Sort
Records Dialog box

BAR CODES
Changing printer in the Print Setup dialog box may change the appearance of bar codes on the screen and
the printout. Bar code styles are only valid at one printer resolution. If you change to a printer with a
different printing resolution, you need to redefine your bar code styles and recreate your bar code objects.

Bar Code scanners do read in color. For best results use a color that will contrast highly with the bar
code's background. Color combinations such as Red and Purple will make it difficult for the scanner to
get a good read, causing the bar code to have to be repeatedly scanned or that the bar code will not scan at
all.

The quality of the print media and the quality of the toner or ink used to print a bar code may factor in
the printing of bar codes. Laser and Dot Matrix printers will tend to print a better bar code because the
toner/ink generally does not bleed. Ink Jet printers use an ink that is sprayed onto the paper. The quality
of the paper will have a direct impact on the quality of the output. It is recommended that when possible,
special Ink Jet paper be used. Ink Jet paper is coated (usually on one side) to minimize the diffusion of
reflected light and the ink from bleeding.

CODE 128 UCC OPTION
The program does support the Code 128 UCC option. Click the Options button after choosing the Code
128 symbology in the Bar Code Styles dialog box, and select the UCC-128 check box.

The Code 128 UCC option meets the requirements for certain types of shipping labels. This option
requires a 19 digit numeric data string. When selecting the UCC-128 option in Labels Unlimited, the
necessary start character functions and appropriate checksums digits are added automatically. For more
information on Code 128 UCC, please contact the Uniform Code Council, 8163 Yankee Road, Suite J,
Dayton, OH 45459, (513) 435-3870, Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm EST.

GERMAN LEITCODE AND IDENTCODE SUPPORT
Labels Unlimited version 2.0 includes support for the new German Leitcode and Identcode bar codes.
To create a bar code object using either of these bar code symbologies, you first need to create a
bar code style for the symbology. Select Options/Bar Code Styles to bring up the Bar Code Style
Dialog. Select Int. 2 of 5 as the bar code style and either Leitcode or Identcode as the symbology,
then select Save to save the bar code style. Once you have saved these styles, you may use them to
create bar code objects on your labels.
